The Malaysian Army (TDM) has relaxed and increased its Young Soldier recruitment requirements from May 2026.
Registration and checking the recruitment status of young Malaysian Army soldiers can be done directly through the TDM Young Soldier Recruitment System (SPMPTD).
The strategic move announced by Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman aims to expand the talented human resource pool and attract more candidates with specific technological and technical expertise.

What is a Malaysian Army Young Soldier (TDM)?
Malaysian Army Junior Soldiers is the term for newly selected members who are undergoing basic military training before being assigned to become permanent members.
While undergoing training at the Army Basic Training Center (PUSASDA), they are known as recruits/Young Soldiers and undergo a training period which usually takes around six months to be exposed to military discipline, weapons handling and training, field tactics, as well as developing physical endurance and mental resilience.
After graduating at the Final Training Parade Ceremony, graduates are assigned as Soldiers.
After that, they will be assigned to various corps, such as the Combat Corps, Combat Support Corps, or Service Support Corps based on Force needs, academic qualifications, performance results during training, and other factors such as health and unit demand.
Military Recruitment Requirements Now Relaxed

Young Soldier recruitment requirements have been relaxed starting May 2026 by increasing the maximum age limit to 30 years, reducing the minimum height to 157 cm, relaxing BMI and the ability to wear glasses.

- Maximum Age Limit Increased: Candidates can now apply up to a certain age 30 yearscompared to the previous limit of 25 years.
- Minimum Height Lowered: Height requirements for male candidates are now relaxed 157 centimeters (cm) compared to 162 cm previously.
- Allowed to Wear Glasses: Candidate who farsighted and wears glasses are now eligible to apply and participate in the selection.
- Wider BMI Range: Current Body Mass Index (BMI) requirements set to 28 according to the needs of the service branch.
