What is the Publication Word?

According to home grammar, the word is a small and free grammar unit. When standing alone without receiving any remuneration, it is called the basic word. However, when he receives remuneration we call it a derivative word.

In short, this word is a word that comes from the decoration process by combining basic words. Through this process, the addition of remuneration such as the prefix, suffix, attachment, or insertion in the basic word will be made to produce new meanings.

Here is an example of a solid derivative word:

• Support (Men- + Support)
• beaten (di- + beat)
• food (eating + -an)
• show (per- + show + -an)
• and Guntur (g + -em- + tan)

The importance of derivative words

The following is the importance of derivative words for Malay:

1. Expand vocabulary
   • This type of word makes it possible for more production than one basic word, making language vocabulary richer and flexible.
2. Clarify meaning
   • With a certain remuneration, the original meaning of the basic word can change in the context and communication requirements.
3. Increase the smooth language
   • The use of appropriate derivative words helps the speaker to convey ideas more accurately and professionally.

Form/type of word

According to the grammar of the DPR there are four forms, namely, receiving remuneration of the prefix, suffix, remuneration of adjectives, and including remuneration. The following is a description of the forms and examples of words:

1. The word published begins

The prefix can be in nouns, verbs and adjectives, as registered as follows:

• Farmers → Beth (Name word)
• Read → Read (verb)
• big → biggest (adjective words)

2. The word published ended in

As for the suffix, according to the grammar of the DPR, the suffix in Malay can only be in nouns and verbs, as in the example below:

• Literature → Author (Name word)
• teaching → teachings (verb)

Adjectives are in nouns, verbs and adjectives as follows:

• Name → Naming (Name word)
• Scared → scary (verb)
• Beautiful → Beauty (adjective words)

4. Words of insertion

Unlike other forms, this form is no longer productive in its formation, where new derivatives are no longer formed by inserts.

According to home grammar, the forms of these inserts are frozen and cannot be present in other words except in some of the new terms made:

• teeth → gear (Name word)
• Jajah → Explore (verb)
• Connect → Sinisjin (adjective words)
