What is the FA Cup?
The Malaysian FA Cup is an annual national knockout football tournament held since 1990, managed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), before being transferred to the Malaysian Football LLP (MFL) (now known as the Malaysian Football League) in the 2016 season.
It involves professional clubs from the country’s Super League, Premier League and Semi-Pro League.
The competition starts with a preliminary round between the M3 and M4 League clubs, followed by the top clubs from the main league in the next round.

The winner of the FA Cup not only gets the prestigious trophy, but also qualifies for Asian-level club competitions such as the AFC Champions League or AFC Cup, depending on eligibility requirements.
The tournament format focuses on the knockout system, where each match is different from the league which uses the long league system. Now the management of the competition has been handled by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) since 2016.
After 34 editions of the FA Cup, Selangor FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC remain the most champions, namely five times, followed by Sri Pahang and Kuala Lumpur City three times and JDT as defending champions four times.
