The date of Hari Raya Haji or Hari Raya Sacrifice in Malaysia in 2026 will fall on May 27 & 28, 2026. Please see the complete schedule in the article below or see the KPM academic calendar at the link

The public holiday on May 27 2026 is for the entire country, while May 28 2026 is an additional holiday for the states of Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu.

Mid-semester holidays for the 2026 academic year are scheduled for 22 May – 6 June 2026 (group A) & 23 May – 7 June 2026 (group B) which includes Hajj Day.

So, even though a special school holiday is not announced for Hari Raya Haji, school students will still be on holiday during the mid-year holidays.​​

Date of Hajj 2026

The date of Hari Raya Haji 2026 or Hari Raya Sacrifice this year falls on May 27, 2026 (Wednesday).

However, this date can change and depends on the results of the Zulhijjah new moon sighting activity.

This new moon sighting activity was carried out by astronomy officers and related committees at various official locations throughout Malaysia on the evening of the 29th of the month of Zulkaedah on the Hijrah calendar.

The results of these observations will be confirmed by the Keeper of the Great Seal of Kings who will then officially announce the start date of the month of Zulhijjah and Hari Raya Haji.

Holiday Dates for Hajj 2026 & KPM School Holidays

The public holiday of this festival in 2026 has arrived May 27 and 28, 2026 namely on that day Wednesday And Thursday.

The public holiday on May 27 2026 is for the entire country, while May 28 2026 is an additional holiday for the states of Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu.

For school students, the date of Hari Raya Haji 2026 falls on the mid-holidays of the 2026 school year (22 May – 6 June 2026 / 23 May – 7 June 2026) which includes the date of Hari Raya Haji. Indirectly, school students are also on holiday on this date, which coincides with Hari Raya Haji 2026.

As can be seen in the table above, there is no provision for school holidays to coincide with the 2026 Hari Raya Haji celebration because that date is included in the Ministry of Education’s 2-week mid-year school holidays.

Hari Raya Aidiladha, also called Hari Raya Haji, is one of the important events celebrated by Muslims and falls on the tenth day of the month of Zulhijjah, which is the last month in the Islamic calendar.

This festival commemorates the great sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail to show their obedience to Allah SWT.

According to the Koran, Allah SWT tested Prophet Ibrahim by ordering him to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail. Both of them sincerely and obediently accepted the order.

However, when Prophet Ibrahim prepared to slaughter Prophet Ismail, Allah SWT sent the angel Gabriel to replace Prophet Ismail with a goat to be used as a sacrifice.

This is a test from Allah SWT; to test the loyalty and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail.

The practice of circumcision coincides with the Hajj holiday

Among the circumcision practices that can be carried out when celebrating this holiday are as follows:

• Choose another route to or from the mosque
• Take a shower before praying
• Wearing new clothes
• Eat after prayer
• Say takbir
• Aidiladha circumcision prayer
