How to Apply for PTPTN Refund Postponement

Did you know, apart from checking PTPTN balances online, there are still various other e-Services that can be accessed by borrowers.

If the borrower has difficulty making repayment, there are 2 options the borrower can make, namely:

  1. Apply for a postponement of PTPTN refund; or
  2. Submission of Scheduling/Restructuring of Monthly Installment Payments

The following is additional information on how to create the following two applications.

i) Apply for PTPTN Postponement

Applicants can apply for a postponement of PTPTN payments for certain reasons such as losing a source of income, facing financial constraints and so on.

Required documents are as follows:

  1. The official postponement request letter or postponement request form can be found on the PTPTN Official Portal.
  2. Copy of study offer letter.
  3. Photocopy of new sponsor offer letter (if sponsored by a sponsor other than PTPTN/if continuing studies abroad).
  4. Graduation date confirmation letter from IPT (if not included in the offer letter).
  5. Copies of transcripts and certificates for completed studies (if relevant).

Use:

  • Only complete applications will be processed.
  • Wage charges remain in effect throughout the suspension period.

ii) Scheduling/Restructuring of PTPTN Fund Refunds

To reduce the burden of monthly payment installments, borrowers can also schedule or restructure.

Scheduling is a method that makes it easier for borrowers to reschedule the Repayment Schedule (JBB) so that borrowers can pay off their debts according to the predetermined repayment period.

Meanwhile, structuring is a method that makes it easier for borrowers to change the JBB structure and determine monthly installments based on the borrower’s ability.

Through this method, the repayment period can be extended until the borrower reaches the age of 60 years.

Sarawak Government Helps Pay PTPTN Loans

The Sarawak government remains committed to helping ease students’ financial burden by allocating RM15 million in 2026 to continue the PTPTN loan repayment discount program.

Sarawak Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative has benefited more than 33,000 students, with a total of RM117 million distributed so far.

This repayment subsidy program is specifically for Sarawak borrowers who demonstrate financial discipline by repaying more than 30 percent of their loan amount, and is implemented through the Sarawak Foundation. Sarawak is also the only state in Malaysia that offers a PTPTN refund discount that is fully funded by the state government.

Apart from that, Abang Johari also announced two other major initiatives to support low-income students, namely the free laptop program and book vouchers.

The Sarawak government also allocated RM60 million as special financial assistance to students in Sarawak to cover living expenses including food and daily necessities.

It is hoped that all of these initiatives will continue to have a positive impact on the next generation of Sarawak students in line with efforts to promote equitable and accessible education.
