Free Mykad Chip Conversion Free from 23 September 2025 to 7 October 2025

September 22, 2025, Putrajaya-in Line with the announcement of the Prime Minister today regarding the implementation of business initiatives for Malaysia, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) through the National Registration Department (NRD) will provide free mykad chip change facilities from 23 September 2025 to 7 October 2025.

According to NRD records, for the period January to August 2025, the National Registration Department (NRD) has received 294,715 applications for replacing MyKAD under the category of damaged chips or cards. Application trends also showed a significant increase during the last three months – 32,819 applications in June, increased to 40,371 in July, and jumped to 45,411 in August. Meanwhile, for September, until the 21st of the month alone, NRD received 22,858 applications.

Based on the latest two -month replacement, the average application for the damaged chip category was recorded in around 43,000 chip units per month. Thus, the conversion of free Mykad chip from 23 September 2025 to 7 October 2025 is estimated to involve expenditure to the Madani Government RM714.660.00 including other related costs.

I want to emphasize that the Madani government is concerned to fully bear the cost during this time to ensure that the access of the people to this subsidy will not be affected just because of technical problems with MyKad and every citizen who qualifies can enjoy the benefits of subsidies95 smoothly.

I ask Malaysians to keep Mykad in good condition, because it is not only identification documents, but also the key to various government facilities including Budi95 -based subsidies.

The Madani government adheres to the principles of admiration and inclusive, ensuring that every Malaysian receives the promised benefits without anyone going down.

This facility is provided by Free from September 23, 2025 to 7 October 2025. During this time, people can convert mykad to all jaluses and JPN offices throughout the country.

According to JPN records:

• 294,715 Damaged Mykad Replacement Applications have been received from January to August 2025.
• Applications have increased over the past three months:
  • Jun 2025: 32,819 applications
  • July 2025: 40,371 applications
  • August 2025: 45,411 applications
  • On September 21, 2025 only: 22,858 applications

This high application level shows the urgent need to help people change damaged Mykad chips.

Government responsibility costs

Based on the last two months, around 43,000 damaged chips are replaced every month.

Thus, the free Convertible Mykad initiative from September 23 to October 7, 2025 is expected to be charged the government fee of RM714,660, including other related costs.
