The hybrid premium SUV market in Malaysia recently received another serious contender with the official launch of the Omoda C9 PHEV, a coupé-style sports utility vehicle (SUV) that promises a combination of impressive performance and energy efficiency.
Launched at RM208,800, this plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model is not only the most powerful model in Omoda’s vehicle range to date, but also offers advanced hybrid technology with three electric motors and a total range of up to 1,100 kilometers.
Its presence in the local market further strengthens competition in the increasingly competitive premium SUV segment, offering an attractive choice for consumers who want an environmentally friendly vehicle without sacrificing performance and style.
Interior and Exterior Design
In terms of exterior design, the Omoda C9 PHEV still maintains the sporty and elegant SUV coupé style. The sloping roofline at the rear provides a dynamic appearance, while adaptive LED lighting elements with sharp daytime running lights add visual sharpness.
Other features include automatic high beams, headlight washers, dynamic turn signals and a power boot that makes loading easier.
Users will also find rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated and foldable rearview mirrors with memory function, roof rails, and an NFC key for keyless access.
All these elements complete its identity as a premium SUV that is ready to face anything.
Entering the cabin, the Omoda C9 PHEV welcomes the driver and passengers with a very luxurious atmosphere.
The seats are covered in premium black leather, with heating and ventilation functions provided for the front and rear row seats.
The driver gets a six-way power adjustment facility, while the front passenger gets a four-way adjustment.
The dual-zone air conditioning system is equipped with a built-in deodorization system that also filters air quality, produces negative ions and ozone, as well as an automatic de-mist function.
Luggage space is spacious, offering a capacity of 660 liters which can be expanded to 1,783 liters when the rear seats are folded, providing maximum freedom for long journeys or carrying large equipment.
Specification
At its heart, the Omoda C9 PHEV is powered by an advanced hybrid system called the Super Hybrid System (SHS).
It combines a 1.5 liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine producing 143 PS of power and 215 Nm of torque with a set of three electric motors.
Two motors are located at the front (P2 as a generator and P2.5 as a traction motor) and another motor at the back.
The result of this combination is an incredible total system power of 537 PS and 650 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, a feat on par with a sports car.
A three-speed Specialized Hybrid Transmission (DHT) allows the petrol engine to drive the wheels at low speeds, improving response and efficiency.
This motorbike’s energy is stored in a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 34.46 kWh.
With this battery, the Omoda C9 PHEV can cover a distance of 145 km in full electric mode based on WLTP standards, enough for daily travel without using a drop of petrol.
When combined with a 70 liter capacity fuel tank, the claimed total range of 1,100 km makes it an ideal companion for long journeys without having to worry about the distance to a charging station.
Battery charging is also very flexible, supporting DC fast charging up to 70 kW which can charge 30% to 80% in just 25 minutes.
A 6.6 kW AC charger takes about 5.5 hours to fully charge, while a 2.7 kW home charger takes about 12 hours.

Variants and Prices
In Malaysia, the Omoda C9 PHEV is offered in one main variant with complete specifications, but buyers can choose additional packages such as premium accessories, exclusive interior finishing and special color choices.
Standard colors include pearl white, obsidian black, and metallic blue, while the exclusive package offers a two-tone option to give the style more pop.
The Omoda C9 PHEV in Malaysia is priced at RM208,800 without insurance.
As a locally assembled (CKD) model at the Shah Alam factory, it comes with a complete guarantee including a vehicle guarantee for 7 years or 200,000 km, an engine guarantee for 10 years or 1,000,000 km, as well as a guarantee for electrical components (battery, motor) for 10 years or 200,000 km.
For now, the first 50 fully imported units (CBU) are also being offered with free insurance for one year worth RM6,000 while stocks last.
