Introduction to 2024 SARA Assistance (Kindness Foundation Contributions)

In the 2024 APBN, SARA assistance is provided to 700,000 STR recipients with payments of RM100/month for 12 months through the same steps – namely via MyKad.

According to the Ministry of Finance, starting in 2024, ALL STR recipients will also receive the Basic Mercy Contribution (SARA) compared to only the very poor category who are entitled to receive assistance in 2023.

The Targeted Assistance for Compassion (SARA) Subsidy Program has been increased by the Government and will be implemented in stages starting January 22 2024.

Category & Amount of Mercy Foundation Donation Assistance in 2024 (SARA 2024)

Two new categories were introduced, namely poor and extreme poor households. Eligible beneficiaries include the poor and very poor based on eKasih data.

Increase in assistance rates for Single Households and Elderly to RM1,200 (2023: RM600) and Singles remain at RM600.

*NOTE – STR recipients as well as non-poor communities and eKasih Hardly Poor are also entitled to receive 2024 SARA assistance as follows:

• Recipient STR House Contents as well as not Poor People and Poor People Hard eLove worthy RM300 a year; And
• Recipient Golden Citizen STR There are no Couples and Singles either not Poor People and Poor People Hard eLove worthy RM150 a year.

Check Eligibility for SARA 2024 MyKasih Recipients

Example of status display for a recipient who passed RM1200 and received cash payment via 2 payments – This recipient is a Sabah/Sarawak recipient:

For those who receive a qualifying amount display of RM1200, you will receive a credit of RM100 per month via MyKasih.

Beneficiaries who receive monthly payments are beneficiaries in Peninsular Malaysia.

For recipients from underprivileged/very poor communities/e-Kasih recipients, checking can also be done via the MyKasih website.

The following is information from the official STR 2024 website:

Disbursement Method & Payment Date for 2024 SARA Assistance

I) PENINSULA RECIPIENT

For Peninsular recipients, you will receive a monthly allowance of RM100 / RM50 every month for a year via their MyKad to purchase certain basic necessities.

The first payment will be made starting January 22, 2024 while the next payment starting in February 2024 will be distributed to the recipient’s MyKad account at 1 day a month every month with the following schedule:

II) SABAH/SARAWAK RECIPIENTS

For recipients in Sabah / Sarawak, you will receive a payment of RM600 / 2 times payment on February 19, 2024 (Monday) And starting September 2024 through crediting to bank accounts in cash at Bank Simpanan Nasional branches nationwide.

III) STR RECIPIENTS ARE NOT POOR / STRONG POOR

SARA payments will be distributed to non-poor and extreme poor STR recipients in stages starting December 9 2024.

The payment method is in cash via a bank account, the same as the previous STR payment method.

How to Buy MyKasih Help Items 2024

Once the recipient from the Peninsula Malaysia address is approved and registered with SARA, an account will be opened based on the recipient’s MyKad in the MyKasih system where the expense allowance will be deposited. Beneficiaries will receive a monthly allowance of RM100 / RM50 for 12 months via their MyKad to purchase certain basic necessities.

Supermarkets/Retail Stores participating in this cashless purchasing program will have MyKasih payment system infrastructure at their locations so that recipients can make payments using MyKad.

SARA recipients who meet the requirements will receive a Short Messaging System/WhatsApp (SMS) application from MyKasih to confirm their status as recipients of this program, along with the date and time of the orientation briefing session at the nearest retail store.

Beneficiaries can purchase basic necessities from 13 approved product categories viz rice, bread, eggs, cooking oil, wheat flour, biscuits, instant noodles, drinks, canned food, kitchen spices, cleaning products, medicines and school supplies.

Basic necessities related to the SARA program will be labeled for recipient reference. Examples of basic needs by category are as follows:

The method for purchasing basic necessities is as follows:

1. Select Required Items
   Aid recipients can purchase basic necessities based on 13 product categories that have the MyKasih label on the price tag shelf.
2. Show MyKad For Verification
   The cashier checks the recipient’s MyKad status.
3. Scan Item Code
   The cashier scans each basic item to be purchased according to the permitted categories.
4. Pay Using MyKad
   Beneficiaries enter a 6 digit pin number to confirm the purchase transaction.
5. Save Receipt For Review
   Beneficiaries keep receipts to verify purchase transactions.

How to Check SARA Balance 2024

Checking the SARA balance in the recipient’s MyKad account can be done in the following ways:

The MyKasih application (MyKasih App) can now be downloaded on Google Play or the Apple App Store to make it easier for Basic Mercy Contribution (SARA) recipients to check the balance in their MyKad account, the types of goods that can be purchased, and the nearest shop to make purchases.

Taking into account the positive response to the SARA program last year, the Government has also expanded the network of participating retail partners (supermarkets/shops) to 515 (as of 17 January 2024) compared to 424 (in 2023) across the country.
