Anwar’s general meeting scheduled for July 26, 2025 is a peaceful general meeting organized by the opposition political parties and civil society organizations.

The general meeting reflects the dynamics of democracy in Malaysia, where people are free to voic their views on state leadership openly and orderly.

Since the beginning of the establishment of the 15th General Election Government, various parties have expressed dissatisfaction with current leadership, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

This meeting is one of the main platforms for people to express their views and demands about policies that are considered in line with their aspirations.

General meetings are scheduled for five main locations, namely the National Mosque, Art Market, Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque, Jamek Baru Mosque and Shopping Transfer, before the participants moved to Independence Square

The opposition expects 300,000 participants to attend the temporary meeting of the GRDP expecting around 10,000 to 15,000 participants.

To ensure public safety, it is hoped that 2,000 police will be deployed to control the situation.

The Prime Minister in responding to the meeting organization said he had directed the Malaysian Royal Police (GRDP) to provide full cooperation to ensure that the “Anwar Council” was safe, smooth and without intimidation.

This organization’s permission also said he celebrated the democratic process practiced in Malaysia.

The purpose of organizing “Anwar’s fall”

According to an open letter to invite the public to attend this “Anwar Council”, there are 15 reasons they want to hold this meeting, including:

• Failure to reduce the cost of people’s living
• Pru15 promise is denied
• The price of goods rises, salaries do not go up
• Chronism and nepotism are getting worse
• Malaysian policy is only beautiful on paper
• Education & public health is getting worse
• People are violated by racial & religious sentiment
• The spirit of reform originally betrayed
• GLC is still leaking, leakage that is widespread
• The state has no clear economic direction
• Agriculture and food failed to develop
• Young people lost hope to get home & job
• Palestinian problems are only slogans, not action
• Large bribery continues to be covered
• Anwar symbol of elite failure and manipulation

Political Maturity and Democratic Practices in Malaysia

Anwar and below show that Malaysians are more mature in using the available democratic space.

The right to gather in peace, as enshrined in the federal constitution, is part of the rights that must be respected by all parties.
